Great article on forming a business (quickly) from Adam Warner.
One of the biggest things I try to tell people is to hire an attorney that specializes in business law *BEFORE* you organize your business. They are able to advise you on the best structure for your business and the best state to be organized in. Most corporations are registered in the state of Delaware for a variety of reasons even though they operate in another state.
Another thing I recommend is finding an accountant before you organize your company as well, as they will also be able to provide tax advice to you before you get in way over your head. It’s better to put together a strategy for paying taxes and understanding tax liabilities before you get started, otherwise you’ll find yourself with some issues when tax preparation season rolls around.
I tend to develop on my localhost using the exact same domain as my production site. Some people think it’s crazy, but I think it’s awesome. Why do I do this? Because it’s easier than having to change database values and content asset links whenever I import a database dump into my local environment.
Uploads by Proxy is a plugin that allows you to sync the uploads from a remote site to a local site. This makes it easy to test locally without broken upload links throughout your installation. Pretty nifty.
Do you want better-tasting coffee that gives you energy all day long instead of short spurts? Try Upgraded™ Coffee:
Upgraded Coffee is the result of an obsessive pursuit to engineer the absolute highest performance coffee beans on earth. It’s taken more than 10 years to identify every step of performance-robbing toxin formation in coffee and to create a reliable, perfect source of beans that always makes you feel great – even though “normal” coffee gives people headaches, jitters, and crankiness. Upgraded Coffee makes you feel noticeably better than any other coffee. You’ll never go back to Starbucks again. These beans are meant for drinking black or best of all, for making Bulletproof Coffee with grass fed butter.
I love this effect for animating new content into the user’s screen without the sometimes jarring “modal window” effect. One of the best things about this method is that it can be used to replace traditional modal windows and offers a better experience for small-screen users. Here’s a demo of the interaction.
This is something I’ve always wanted to implement for my team but never could find the right tool for the job. We’ve tried a delicious.com account, a Kippt feed, and just dropping interesting links into Campfire, but it’s always been a broken process. It’s currently in beta testing so it may take a while to get signed up. I went ahead and signed up and will post a more in-depth review once we have a few weeks of usage under our belts.
We use Harvest for time-tracking, budgeting, and reporting and absolutely love it. It’s great to see their story and how they constantly strive to deliver a beautiful experience for one of the most loathed concepts ever: time-tracking.
